Best thing about 3D printing is that the copier technician would be able to 3D print new gears, spockets, arbors, door hinges and all kinds of refits and retrofits to any damage machine. The copier Technician would no longer be able to call himself a Technician, he would be called a Copier Engineer. He may have to learn Computer Aided Design(CAD) as part of his new trade.
The factory would no longer be required to send out parts. You would buy a copyright order off the parent company which would allow the dealership to 3D print X-amount of parts using the parent companies preapproved CAD designs.

3D printing holds some interesting possiblities for the future....
The problem is they are only going to sell 1 3d printer, then you can just print a new one : )

Yes, but think of the money that you can make selling boards and wiring harnesses.

I was thinking more along the line of EX-TERM-IN-ATE !!, EX-TERM-IN-ATE !! (caused by a well aimed program virus). They could be controlled by quickly unplugging from the wall (copier techs could do that).......unless they had solar panels......then they would hide at night and come out during the day

It's for real folks. They now have some that will print with soft metals. A local company here in MN just won a contract to print all of the body panels for a line of cars being assembled in Canada.

I'm getting into it. The paperless office is upon us. We need to expand or die.

They already spray a metal plasma stream on to worn metal surfaces like splines, housings and crankshafts before they lathe them perfect and realign them.
It's only a matter of time before they make the metal spray process into CNC or 3D printer.

Tell you what, I'm having a blast with this 3d printer. The things you can make is unlimited. I'm still trying to get the 3d scanner figured out though.......

I thought about buying a 3D printer myself. I would like to hear how you go with it in the future.
At the risk of upsetting the mech-heads with geek-IT, do you know what printer control language it uses?
Is it CNC G-code or OEM propriatory code ?

Just so you know. I have most of the gear here ready to put together a small CNC hobby shop drill/mill router table.
