For your reference, this is because SMTP (Simple Mail Transfer Protocol) does not 'usually' require authentication**, as it's the protocol that only sends e-mails out. Something along the lines of POP3 which retrieves e-mails from an Inbox does require authentication. So "In theory" a Copier doing Scan to E-mail shouldn't need an E-mail account set up for it unless the machine was actually recieving e-mails.
