Righto.... why do I feel like I'm going to regret this ......?
Does any one have any thoughts or ideas they would like the software to do?
I'll put together a POC version and throw it out there for comments and suggestions.
Darn... the things I get myself into.......... ?..........

I'm probably not your target audience for this project, so this might be a waste of time.
Still, once you finish this project, if you could come up with a companion appliance that consisted of a boxing glove on a big coiled spring that would punch me in the face when I did something wrong, that would be helpful. Even moreso if the laptop would then display a message like "Hey dummy, stop doing stupid things!"
You probably right. I haven't allowed for the intellectually " IT challeged " person in the POC version.
They're probably going to pop-poo me just for the level of configuration they'll need to do to set it up how they like.
It will be good if they configure most if it them selves, then they will know how to drive it.

It al leads back to what do you do when it doesn't work? We replace IUs because they are not serviceable, boards because they are not component serviceable, even some small desktops because it's not worth it to trouble shoot, but I still know how to check for a bad developer bias contact, or a blown ICP. I think you still needs techs that know how to perform the checks you're speaking of, otherwise you will be going back to the account with them because "I forgot my handy dandy tool" or "this damn think doesn't work". If you don't see your question answered in the forum, please don't think it's OK to PM me for a personal reply...I do not give out firmware and/or manuals.
GodMode!!!
Understanding Windows 7's 'GodMode' - CNET
To enter "GodMode," one need only create a new folder and then rename the folder to the following:
GodMode.{ED7BA470-8E54-465E-825C-99712043E01C}Once that is done, the folder's icon will change to resemble a control panel and will contain dozens of control options. I'm not sure it's my idea of playing God, but it is a handy way to get to all kinds of controls.
CHEERS!

another useful feature that non IT guys have trouble with is creating shares for smb scanning.
Basically require the share name and maybe advanced options to assign permissions certain user/groups such as the current user or the everyone group.
Also have it display the current username and the hostname/IP address after creation which will be needed for configuration at the copier.
Also a tool to test SMTP server settings.
