O.K. I got some of that reversed, but it just proves my point - there is just as little reason behind the names as there is behind the D009, 11, 12, and 13 with the D010 being a totally different series.

This subject came up during a tech training class I attended at the Tustin, CA ricoh facility.
It seems the names that we're talking about are production / engineering terminology for the various model lines. As far as I know, they are typically not used outside of Ricoh.
Most of Europe talks Designer Names only... great thing.
Names are a lot easier to remember than codes.
With names you know if it roots back to a Grandfather-model or if it is new design.
E.g. the Russian series.
For over 10 years now each ricoh in the range betweeen 22 and 32 copies/min is a russian (delicious cocktail "white russian" remember the big lebowsky ?)... as long as you are into the job for a while it makes it a lot easier when you talk about a russian c4... you direcktly know the family tree.. no matter what brand that might be.
it is easy to see when they launch an intermediate x.5 version of a well known box - no new mechanics, just controller playthings...
This is better to recognize training-demands as well...
Same name - only update training required, new name - full training !
Yep, if you dare to have it installed, we support it !
Hi there!
For the 1. time a new bw-machine is not named after a cocktail or beer: the new MP 2014 is named BRIC standing for Brasil, Russia, India, China. Itīs coming for the KIR-series and looks awesome cheap.
Greetings...
If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.

Too funny. I'll have to give this to me friends on the low-volume team. :-)
And FWIW, the color production models are named after constellations. The C651/751 was the Taurus, the C7100 is the Leo, the C901 was the Aries, and the C9100/9110 is the Andromeda.
I can't stop calling the C9110 the Andromeda, since I was the tech for the only beta unit in the field in the U.S. last year and was forced to call it that by the engineering group from RCL during our weekly conference calls.
Today's subliminal quote is:
Does anybody know if the Ricoh EDP code for consumables is the same across their brand range? We're 90% Ricoh here in Oz but occasionally you run into a Lanier and I get asked if the toners are interchangeable.
At least 50% of IT is a solution looking for a problem.
There are different EDP codes or at least were in the past. Ricoh is now recommending/requiring that we use the Ricoh codes. We are a Lanier dealer. Recipe number has always been the same across product lines. Since the 501/700 bottle shape has been the same. Just the label was different but that has now changed.
