scanning to folder is there a max size in mpc2800/mpc3300

    hi
i had a strange call when i tried to max out the default resolution on an account doing b/w 11x17 architectual
    drawings.
customer had the default at 200 dpi and i made the default 600 dpi and color/bw .
as i scanned the test 11 x17 plans it stopped midway 1st sheet wth an excessive size warning which forced me drop in down to 400 dpi.

    can i adjust the max?
i know there is a max adjustment for scan to email but assume that just as an attachment.
also if i allow the one engineer there to print using poscript that the 2nd machine has on it can i expect better prints and resolution?
    anything to watch out for?
    thnx in advance

I believe scan size vs dpi is a fixed value per machine.

From the op manual scanner reference...
Resolution and scan size are inversely related. The higher the resolution (dpi) is set, the smaller the area
that can be scanned. Similarly, the larger the scan area, the lower the resolution that can be set.

    from the same manual...
Refer to the table below for the maximum resolution available for each scan size.
    Scan size and maximum resolution
    Scan size Maximum resolution (dpi)
    A3, B4, 11×17, Legal (81/2×14), 81/2×13 400
    A4, A5, A6, A7, B5, B6, Letter (81/2×11), 51/2×81/2 600

thnx i never saw that anywhere.
just to be clear if the customer want to scan a 40 page 11x17 set of architectual plans to A folder it will scan all
40 pages as a single file as long as the dpi is set to 400?

The 400 DPI limit on the larger page sizes is a machine function; it has nothing to do with email vs. folder.

The machine must store the entire document locally (on the machine) before it can send it out.

Most, if not all, of the machines in this size range have the same limitation. The larger MFPs have more resources available to get the higher resolution.

Don't forget that a 600 x 600 DPI scan is 2.25 times the size of a 400 DPI scan. That requirement can get really huge on an 11 x 17 page.

I've run into this many times!! The end user has got to realize the machine has limitations.............................even if "The Salesman Said".......

Not sure what the actual limit is and i dont have an mpc2800/mpc3300 to test with...

fwiw I was able to scan a 625 Meg document on an mpc4501.

    Just a thought...

If the customer really needs 11 x 17 at 600 DPI, I wonder if a scanning application in conjunction with the TWAIN scanner driver would work, doing a pull scan into a PC, rather than pushing from the copier.

Irfanview is very inexpensive (free for personal use, but not for business).

If it does, and is sufficient, great, if not, maybe Acrobat (not Reader) would work well with more features.

Test with Irfanview first, though, as a proof of concept to see if the resolution is supported. I have a hunch it is.
