    MPC 4503 DF problem

Hi. Has anyone had the DF cause an issue on the double pass model where it jams juts after the sensor on the feed in on fresh white paper but anything printed with 1/4 page of text seems fine. ?

I have a DF on a machine that if the paper is printed on more than 1/4 page of text is fine but anything with none or very little text jams. Maybe it's a firmware update which I will try. I have replaced all the rollers and cleaned the sensors.

If this does does not work I have a spare single pass DF, are these interchangeable or do I need any other parts or software?

Thank for your time and and hope you have all had a fun summer.

    Tim.

Do you have a ridiculous number of jams at 16 (registration sensor)?

If so, replace the feed assembly (D684-2101), the old assemblies had two black rollers inside the feed belt, the new ones have light grey and white rollers.

Also, order the 04 double feed mod, D684-2313 & 2314, I have seen quite a bit of double feed problems with these DFs.

As a precaution we install both these mods on all the 03s and 04s now (with reverse DFs).

Hi. I have replaced the feed assembly today and it is the same. It also does it in SP free run so I am still thinking a sensor. Maybe a firmware update for it. Can you change the DF from a double pass to single pass as i have a spare.

    Thanks loads guys.

    Tim.

Did the new feed assembly have the different coloured rollers?

You can swap them easily, the upper rear cover has a removable section for the secondary scanner cable to go through. No extra boards are needed to be installed, both cables go to the same PWB. The single pass feeder uses slightly different sized locator pins (the ones at the rear of the scanner unit).

if you think it is a sensor have you done the sensor check for it. see if they change states. If it is single pass then 6-011-001 thru 023. if old style 6-007-001 thru 023

    Re: MPC 4503 DF problem

Hiya. Sorry for the delay. Had such a busy time. So. The rollers are light grey and not dark. I decided to fit the Single scan DF as the customer is using it a lot and it seems more robust. I have fitted the little controller board and now when I switch on the machine it has 620-02 which is a communication error. So for some reason it doesn't like that. Do I have to tell the machine it's got the different DF on. The old one was for the sake machine but double scan for duplexing and not single scan.

    Thanks loads. Tim.

Looking at the installation instructions in the US service manual, you are supposed to replace the BCU as well as installing the sub IPU. From the accesorries check list for the SPDF, BCU:TYPE-H1:ME-C1E:ASS'Y.

Set serial number on new BCU
    1. Open the front cover.
    1. Turn the power on. SC995-01 occurs immediately.
    2. Make a note of the number that is displayed in SP5-811-005.
    3. Enter the number that you noted in SP5-811-004.
    4. Turn the power off.
    5. Close the front cover

    Adjust SP Settings
    1. Turn the power ON.
    2. Enter the SP values marked on the paper provided, in the following SP.
    1. SP4-712-001: CIS GB Adj. Value: R
    2. SP4-713-001: CIS GB Adj. Value: G
    3. SP4-714-001: CIS GB Adj. Value: B
    1. Adjust the registration for the SPDF.
    § SP6-006-010: ADF Adjustment L-Edge Regist (1-Pass): Front
    § SP6-006-011: ADF Adjustment L-Edge Regist (1-Pass): Rear
    § SP6-006-001: ADF Adjustment Side-to-Side Regist: Front
    § SP6-006-002: ADF Adjustment Side-to-Side Regist: Rear
    2. If there is skew, loosen the fixing screw [A] and swivel the SPDF slightly to the left or right.
Then tighten screw [A] and make a test copy to check that there is no skew.

If the SPDF came off another machine, C4503 or C5503, you will need to swap the BCU boards as well then enter the correct serial number on each. You may also need to obtain the SP values from the other machine.
