Workcentre 5225A
After erasing the HDD what is required and what is the procedure for reloading firmware?
Background for those interested...Ricoh tech and we took over a xerox account and the salesman promised them we would securely erase the hdd before sending it back to the leasing company.
I found some instructions for using a thumbdrive with an /altboot folder but they reference a .dlm file and the firmware i downloaded from xerox is a .bin
Thx

Re: Workcentre 5225A
Initializing the HDD will have no effect on the rest of the machine. To reload FIRMWARE it is a .bin file that can be found on then Xerox website. The Altboot procedure you are referencing is for System Software in which case will be a .dlm file The Altboot procedure is to recover from a corrupt HDD and similiar issues that would require the reloading of system software.
I would recommend that you Initialize the HDD, and system. This will wipe the HDD and all user settings. The leasing company will not care if the machine has the latest firmware or not.
Hope this helps

Re: Workcentre 5225A
Thx for the reply.
per the customer we have to securely erase the hdd. we have a device thats similar to dban that prints out a label with the drive info stating the erasure method etc...
so to make the machine functional again you are saying we need to load the .dlm file with altboot? and the .dlm file is not on the xerox site open to the public?

This type of machine dont support altboot procedure.
Remove and erase the hdd then put it back into machine.
