C3502 making high pitched noise while idle

A customer called about this a few minutes ago. I've asked her to record it. Has anyone ever heard of something like this? I haven't...

If the noise is still present while the machine is in sleep mode it could be some sort of coil or transformer whine from the power board. If it's only active while the machine is awake I'd check the fans.

Best bet to run through all the moving things in output check (minus the fusing sleeve) and see if you can get it to change or repeat.

If the sound is when idle most likely a fan or could be the HDD bearing failing.

There is a bulletin re a squeal in the exit unit.
A black style bushing has been replaced by a white nylon one as well as some changes to earth plates. Field fix is to apply Teflon spray lube to the shaft and bushing. Had a number of earlier machines do this. Factory has applied the fix to later machines.

Try putting machine into “Silent Mode” to confirm. This stops the exit and fuser and many fans when idle.
It’s a quick fix. The bush is behind a gear plate(4 screws) and under a one way gear.

Too much speculation without hearing it, could be anything. However, I could say what are the most likely, based on past mpc's noises. Most common, noisey squealing pcu, generated from worn cleaning blade on the drum or a seized bearing on the drum shaft. Rotate each drum by hand, it will be obvious, which one is the culprit. Seized bearing on the fuser, or finaly, laser noise.

    Tinfox,
Did you ever find the solution for this? I think I may have the same noise. Only occurs during warm-up/ idling. Really high-pitched constant sound. Have checked the fans in output mode with none of them making the noise, removed exit section and cleaned/lubed shafts/ bushings. Lubed the P.R. Bearings and drive gear bearings in fuser, and replaced fuser sleeve. Had a torn transfer belt, so I replaced that and while I was in there lubed all the bushings in transfer unit. This one is driving me NUTS!!

I've had the spring plates in the paper exit do exactly what you're saying. Took me hours to figure out. I attached a file with the parts highlighted if it loads. If not it's on page 126 of the 3502 parts manual. Hope this helps.
