What it does is raise the black transfer in the ITB unit. Used to be a common problem with older color units. There was a plastic tab on the inside of the door that was supposed to keep the door from being closed if the lever was in the wrong place. Customer goons would force the door close.
I found the problem a few times with the sponge roller touching the black drum of the transfer assembly (a jumped spring or the broken spring holder), then check the hooks that fix the transfer roller mounted just below the group of melting, they often break but do not notice once opened the machine but disassembled.
Is the Transfer unit cammed into place proper?
