This is probably stupid, but I recently had a chance to see which games I had back in the XP days still work on Windows 8.1. Only two so far - Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon and Myst III Exile.
Anyone had any luck with anything else?

Most should work running in 32 bit from the desktop. You might have to use the compatibility settings.
PONG?????????????
Mystic Crystal Revelations
I don't have 8.1 but I do have windows 7 64bit and sim city 3000 opens, but doesn't run very smooth. Sims 1 tries to open but never makes it to the menu. Oldest game I have that runs on 7 64 bit without changing any compatibility settings is Quake 2. Quake 1 will work but only with a modified executable. Oldest game I have that can be ran with using a virtual machine is commander keen.
Zork 1, 2, & 3
I haven't dug out my WH40K Dark Crusade game since I got my win 8 machine....I'd be upset if it doesn't work....
"In a cruel and evil world, being cynical can allow you to get some entertainment out of it."
I had a few of old games, not even sure if I have the disks for them anymore: Starcraft, MOHAA, Q3, Q2, C&C:RA2, SimTower, CloseCombat 2, Cod1&2..
I know most haven't worked since XP, even with compatibility mode. I got cod1 and 2 to work on Win 7, but they're newer than the others.
And I really wanted to play SimTower and CloseCombat 2 again.. Guess I need to find an old Win95 machine..
Quake 3
You can try using XP Mode and see if you can get more games to run. Note this only installs on Windows 7.
