I have a Konica 8031 that is backgrounding what appears to be a sort of cyan color over the entire page. The transfer belt was near end of life so I went ahead and replaced it, but the backgrounding still continues. I did recently have all of the IU chips reset but can not confirm if this issue began before or after the newly reset chips were installed. I also ran the gradation adjust in tech rep mode, reseated all of the IU's and cleaned the LED's according to the service manual. The issue is still unresolved. I don't know much about color machines, any help would be appreciated. Any ideas?

Run half tone test prints on each IU, see if the background is on them...I suspect that you have old lifed units that need to be replaced.

Thanks minimerlin. I ran the halftone tests on each IU as suggested along with printing lattice patterns for each IU and I get backgrounding on all colors including black. Something is goofy with this thing

Does the background take the form of lines or just an all over fuzzyness..is it only one color ie just cyan but is on all the other printouts as well? I realize that it can be difficult to try to describe the problem.

It uniformly covers entire print. You can only see the whiteness of the paper at the deletions. It looks kind of like when an old analog machine needs it's scanner mirrors cleaned, but the background color looks like it could be cyan, but it's really hard to tell.

I would swop out the cyan IU..do you have another machine of the same model?

My gut instinct says old image units! Did the fault get worse when the transfer belt was changed?

I wish I had another IU/machine for testing but I don't. I think it's probably an imaging unit too. The problem remained the same after the new tranfser belt.

Try changing the cyan LED with another color, if the background changes color, you have a bad LED.
