Update to update:

I worked around the problem by picking LPR instead of RAW for the port. It works great now. Still, if anyone has a suggestion about the stupid password, I would love to hear it.

Is it the job control function that you are talking about in printing preferences or something else? If there is a password problem you can go into key ops and enable changes to the printer settings then restore to factory defaults and also reset the NIC. Will not erase the passwords until you do that!!
