The copy's off the glass are noticeably slighter lighter than the prints. If you adjust the density to dark they look fine. Is there a way to adjust the exposure density in service mode to just affect the copies off the glass and not the prints ? Thanks so much for any help !!
Usual culprit for light copies is dirty optics...I'd start with cleaning the lenses and mirrors and see if that doesn't help.
....other than that, I'm not as familiar with Brother products, so see if there's something here that may give you some direction.

remove the copy glass. then clean the lamps and inner mirrors and the CCD lens.
it's not easy top remove glass... you have to remove ADF and complete scanner. It doesn't have mirrors on most Brothers
It is dirty optics combined with old(weared) drum.
Digital machines are good to compensate image for dust in optics, but when drum count gets high numbers on Brother I believe that's the result. Replace drum unit with new or used but with few prints and you will see the difference.
