Brother MFC-1750
This Brother MFC-1750 only copies 1/4 of the page. If extra pressure is added to the top of the copy ribbon, however, it will copy the entire page. I can't see what is causing the left side not to close as securely as the right side. Any thoughts as to what is causing this and what can be done to fix it is most appreciated. Thank you.

Re: Brother MFC-1750
Don't recognise this model number but perhaps it's a U.S.A number, but one of the old ink ribbon machines in the U.K used to suffer the same problem.
If when you close down the print head on the top of the ribbon cable it has two blue latching pawls on either edge, the problem is a hairline crack on the side where the image is missing.
It is difficult to spot when the unit is raised as there is no pressure on it and the crack closes up but when you latch it down the spring tensioner pressure just pulls it open enough to lift the thermal head away on that side.
As you say if you press down on the outer body the image formation is perfect.
Hope this helps

Re: Brother MFC-1750
Dickie is correct- have changed many of these over the years. P/N UF6085001 for left, UF6087001 for the right. I usually just changed both at the same time. Pretty cheap parts.
