    Technician Grade or titles

Is any one familiar with tech grades or titles? How do you guys do it?
For instance a Level 1 tech would be called what?
Level 2 is what and what must be accomplished to achieve that rank?
    So on and so on.

Any help or input would be appreciated.

    Thanks everyone!

It's not WoW, you don't level up although I wish I could.

You can usually tell how good a tech is by how long they have been doing it. I call our most experienced tech the senior tech and I ask him the hard questions.

Having certifications makes some techs more qualified than others, but not necessarily more knowledgeable.

I agree. The technician with the most tenure and usually has the most certifications is the Senior Tech and the rest fall into line with certifications. We have Service Manager / Senior Tech / Field Service Tech

Service Manager - Go to guy/gal when you cant figure it out. (Must hold multiple manufacturer certifications and have been in the field within the last 3yrs)
-Usually inhouse and available at anytime for phone support, ordering parts, delegating calls, follow up on open, on hold and closed calls.

Senior Tech - The guy/gal who has to go out and figure out what is wrong (Must hold multiple manufacturer certifications, current and past)
    -In Field at all times
-Back up tech for issues that need another set of eyes

Field Service Tech - Knowledge of but not limited to prior work on any manufacturer. Doesnt need but highly preferred to have certifications. Most times overlooked that they keep the business running on a residual basis, no techs = no machines being fixed = profit loss

We have daily between techs and weekly meetings with everyone to discuss options, problem calls, tech pubs-bulletins-post and what ever else they want to talk about. If you have a pissed tech then it shows in thier work. Continue to anger that tech without resolution and it will get expensive

Most times going into a new job they have their established ranks, unless you are hired directly into that position.

    Hope this helps

JrTech's description is not far off the mark. Only Team Leaders or Senior Techs really get titles (that do not necessarily translate into $$$).

The real measure in my estimation, is how many assist calls does that person take each day. It doesn't take the group long to figure out who helps and who doesn't. And it does not necessarily correlate with the titles.

The tech that's always on the phone with somebody is the one you want to ask. =^..^=
If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
    1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
    2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
    3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
    4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
    5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.
