If they need it VERY secure....they could get the unit discussed earlier this year that had the auto shredder attatched at the paper exit .

As exit148 said "I think the 2 current Kyocera models FS-1320D & FS-2020D would fit your bill."
These are GREAt small units ....
Easy setup, easy to maintain, ALMOST anyone can install them .

    Check them out .

Actually, the IT people are contractors and have stated that the reason they want one brand, is to make things more simple for their folks to troubleshoot. That was told to me again today. To sum it up, it is too hard to keep up with more than one brand.

Thanks to those of you who responded. I guess I will have to sell HP.

I wish someone had told me about that 8 brands ago. =^..^=
If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
    1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
    2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
    3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
    4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
    5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.

I would write a letter of complaint to the base commander.
Restricting business to just 1 brand is restraint of trade and against government policy.
1 more brand won't overtax or kill the IT people if you give a class on how to setup, administer and troubleshoot.
Most have newer security features and can be fitted with removable HDD.
The base here had Konica digitals for years, including a research facility that required escorts.
Why do they call it common sense?

If it were common, wouldn't everyone have it?

My complaint would do nothing. The command of the Army is now here, so the top dog is a 4 star, and there are about 25 to 30 generals under him on base. The base is divided into 5 sections where contract copiers are concerned, and the network contractors are different in each section. Joint Special Ops, the smallest uses Cannon. 82nd Airborne Division has always had Xerox and the contract never goes out to bid, Medical also has Xerox on a no bid contract. Army special ops is me with Konica, and the rest of base is my arch nemesis with Ricoh. {we are also a Lanier dealer}. The Ricoh contract has the Army paying 4 cents a page for everything that comes out. Thats right, we bid 2.2 cents a page and lost to the "low bidder" at 4 cents. That proves the government plays favorites. There has always been that HP rule but I have been able to sell around it. Now it is written in stone. The military claims to support local business, but buy 99.9 % of their HP off line, and recently when we bid on single machine deals, well contracting changed what a small business is, from 50 employees to 500 employees. Kind of tuff to compete with companies who can sell for a profit cheaper than we can get from the factory.

Re: Does anyone still make printers that are NOT network ready?

I've got a few pallets of HP Lasers b/w that are rebuilt, boxed, and ready to go with usb or parallel. I have my cost per page on these desktop lasers at about half a penny by rebuilding the toner cartridge units. So you'd have to be into that kind of thing and if you're serious I could show you how to or make a proper video how to do it. You'd need to invest in enough new or empty cartridges for rotation and you can't just dump new toner in or else print quality will deteriorate fast. The first one or two takes awhile until you learn the cartridge model but then it goes smoothly.
