Canon C2030 Color Issues (Especially Flesh Tones)

I have a client who is using an adobe product to create flyers. The current driver we had installed was the UFRII driver. The comparative print between their laser Lexmark color printer and the Canon C2030 is night and day. The C2030 is much darker and it really over-emphasizes the red in the skin tones and definitely over-emphasizes the shadowing areas. As if the contrast is up.

However, when I make calibrations or color adjustments to the machine, there is little to no effect. I've even turned the Magenta down to -8 in the Admin tools. However, it should be noted that when I "copy" the printout, I get a much lighter and respectable print quality. It's still a little over-emphasizing the Magenta tones, but not near as bad as the print. Also, the shadowing or shading is much lighter.

Of course, I went into the admin mode and changed the individual print/copy settings, but it just doesn't seem to make any differences. Secondly, I went into the client's driver, I'm also an IT person, and I checked to make sure he didn't mess with any of the settings. Once that didn't work, I also attempted to uninstall and reinstall the driver just to make sure we didn't have some driver issues.

I've come to the conclusion, there is no way to get a good print out of the C2030 without having the Post Script driver installed. When we loaded the Post Script driver, it sends the print job with no error, however, the machine doesn't register as a print job coming in, nor does it actually print anything out. My assumption is, this C2030 does not have the Post Script option loaded.

What is the procedure on a C2030 to get Post Script loaded? I've heard everything from it's a separate print card to its software that needs to be turned on with a code, and I know that Canon has both types of machines out in the field, so I needed to get the exact sequence and best advice on how to work with this client moving forward.

I'm an authorized Copystar and Xerox dealer who just loves Canon color boxes, so I don't have access to authorized service contact with Canon.

What I'd like to know is the following:

Is it easy and affordable to upgrade the machine to Post Script? If yes, is it a card or is it a software key that needs programmed in?

If it is a software key, and I will have a tough time and an expense involved, what are my "option 2" choices?

Can someone give me good information on how to get great quality from the UFRII driver? Which seems like a pretty inadequate driver for a color machine.
Or, can someone instruct me on a way to pull the information off another C2020 I have and use it on the C2030? The C2020 does have Post Script.

Thanks in advance for any information you may provide me.

have you printed the flyer on the c2020 with the postscript and compare it to the ufr2 print from the c2030 to see if theres a difference?

the postscript comes as a licence key that you buy from canon. dont ask me how much it cost cause i have no idea

you can transfer licence from one machine to another but you have to be an authorised canon partner or service agent and you need a good excuse lol

Thanks for the reply... Basically I am replacing the Canon C2020 with the C2030 due to Main Control Board Failure..?? (Whistle and look away) I wonder if that would get the nod?

When printing from PS driver, output in different color if the version of the system software is earlier than
    Ver.23.02.

[B]When the resolution is set at 1200dpi in the printer driver, output images become darker than those output at 600dpi./// u already know that

[A] is the output at 1200dpi, and > is at 600dpi

The License Management System is a website used to register LANs (License Access Numbers) for Universal Send Kits and other optional kits for the Canon imageRUNNER devices.

    To Register a LAN:

    1. Using a Web Browser (ex. Internet Explorer) on your PC, go to the LMS website at http://www.canon.com/lms/ir.

    2. Enter in the LAN provided in the optional kit (ex. Universal Send Kit).

    3. Enter the serial number for the imageRUNNER device (the machine that the optional kit will be installed on). BE SURE TO ENTER THE CORRECT SERIAL NUMBER.

    4. Copy down the License Key number for the installation.

For more information, please see the attached file lms.pdf.

To Install the Optional Kit on the imageRUNNER Device:

    1. On the copier, hit Additional Functions > System Settings > scroll down > License Registration.

    2. Enter the License Key number you copied down when registering the LAN on the LMS website.

    3. Hit the Start button on the License Registration screen.

    4. Reboot the copier.

    * Note that some optional kits may require certain prerequisite items to be installed before performing the above steps.

UFR II print driver is a Canon proprietary driver that stands for “Ultra Fast Rendering II.” This driver processes print jobs quicker by compressing the print job before sending it to the copier, resulting in faster print times. Because of it’s compression capabilities, the UFR II driver is excellent for printing office files from programs such as Microsoft Word, Microsoft Powerpoint, Microsoft Excel, Adobe Reader and Internet Explorer.

A downside of Canon’s UFR II compression is that it does not offer high quality colour output.
Offices looking to produce high quality colour on a Canon should thus use Adobe PostScript.

Its a 2020/2030....good for graphs, spread sheets, etc. Not a graphic quality machine. Cheap gets you cheap(pulverized toner, cleaning brushes that dump toner back into dev housing(by design),etc). Move up to 5000 series and you will see a huge improvement. Bottom line....you can't polish a turd.

Cool Re: Canon C2030 Color Issues (Especially Flesh Tones)

That's AWESOME information! Thank you! Very good advice and I will check the machine to ensure they do not have it set at 1200dpi. Currently though, the only driver loaded is the UFRII driver, I am not sure it goes into 1200dpi mode, but default at 600dpi. But, I will check just to make sure. Thanks for the document, I'll definitely be able to handle this situation now. And by the way, that example you give almost looks like EXACTLY what its doing. It over emphasizes the details, and it "darkens" or "intensifies" the colors.
