possibly not or won't make a difference, what I don't understand is why does the FUT not have the firmware jdl file with it?
When you run the program it will let you specify either a location for the jdl firmware file or go for an internet look up,so I've tried both, with still no .jdl file showing in the data folder of the FUT,lots of other things, but no jdl....?
Of course I won't be able to do that with the Vista computer (Printer is downstairs, computer up) So I can't connect it to the printer.
    Wish me luck......

Did u read that LPT info pdf _?
It states on last page, u need to get that jdl form
FUT data folder and place it into LPT DATA folder.
Why u can't see it in FUT DATA, is a mystery.

I'm wondering if it's something to do with the caution on canon's support page for the firmware update? Perhaps if you haven't already downloaded the FUT first,it does something to the firmware update? I'll try it out on the other computer and see.
Let you know later on-its 02:30 off to bed!

    Re: Canon imageprograf 6300

Well I tried Visa 64 and the FUT doesn't come with a firmware update itself. Kinda relies on you using the Internet search button to obtain the latest firmware. I was hoping that it might get placed in a windows temp filename,no such luck!

So has anyone actually got an XP Win32 1.23 or 1.24 actual firmware .jdl file? And I don't think it should be 19.9 MB!?

Other than that it's the old throw it in the oven trick...sometimes works, sometimes doesn't...

Which reminds me I've contacted a firm for a new board, though just want to be sure I've the correct part no?

Well the latest update is the board is not going to let me update the firmware.....!
Obtained version 1.24 .jdl file (Which resembled more like the examples in the printer tool instructions...however it does not move to the other pane (Item 6 in the instructions) And the Transfer Firmware button is still grayed out.

Ho-Hum,looking like a new main controller board is required.......still at least you cannot say I didn't give it a go....

I'd just like to thank Techat for his help, assistance and patience with this and me trying to sort this out,Sir you are a star!

So for me it's overtime city to pay for a new board!!

Hi Techat, sorry I don't follow your meaning? Thumb drive, not sure what that is,unless you mean a USB memory stick?
If so,nope didn't try that though we do have a new error code as well as the E196,now there's a 0198 as well?
So I've been looking for a new board with the part number
QM3-6657-000 and the company I'm dealing with go through OCE
(Apparently there one in the same now?)
Though I've just noticed on the board I have there's a mark next to this number QM3-6410.
Is this correct for an ipf6300?
Checking a US site there quoting the other number.
Must get a service manual-note to self!
    Looking at that now....

    Re: Canon imageprograf 6300

Hi Techat, well I'll give the usb stick a go,can't hurt and I've tried every version I can think of to do any firmware update. But at least I now know which chip to replace on the board assuming I can find a replacement! (Have the SM now) Have read the printer log again it's saying the firmware version is 1.23 but is trying to boot 1.24....Which is possibly why there's a check sum error??
I'll have another go later on today,I'll keep you posted.

    Re: Canon imageprograf 6300

Hi Techat and any others reading....
Well another day/few months have passed and things are looking
up. Have now 3 yep three 6300's! But onto the pain in the #### one,
decided to see if I could use the naff board to repair another (needed some resistors of it) But after checking both boards noticed that a surface mount fuse had gone on the troublesome
board....with nothing to lose soldered a fuse wire to it and refitted
to printer...and would you believe it there's life! So now can get into service mode and download firmware mode. Surprise,surprise...
Flaming well worked.....I think? Don't have any inks at all so cannot really say it's fixed.
But here's my question - should you still be able to get into and USE
the service mode without any inks installed?
All I get is the 'no inks - add inks' page on screen, even in service mode. Is that the norm? Or is there still an unresolved issue?

Will put photos up of the fuse, etc later....up in a few hours for my main job....

    TTFN,

    Gus633.
