    Keep It Simple S.....

    Have you checked to see what the default original settings are? Is it set default to text, photo, text/photo?

    Not real familiar with the Canons just yet but the problem you describe is dead on with a Ricoh set to text/photo or photo mode. The machine is sharpening the images by giving more grayscale gradation and doesn't handle text very well when doing this.

    after replacing the drum you need to go to functions in service mode and run DGamma. then go through the ccd adjustments that the service manual says to do. ccd adjust, shading etc. check the door specs and see if your machine is set to door specs first. (default specs) check your transfer to see if you see anything there, transfer roller etc. that needs help. dev assy too.
