What have you done so far replaced the drum? Are you using genuine Canon toner? Can you post a print sample.

What is the page count on the drum?
Without an example I would say to start by cleaning the optics and the laser and then get back to us.
Optics on an ir3235!?
Just replace the drum unit thats all it will be.

Yes we had one that was making black prints and it turned out to be dirty optics (mirrors and laser). Drum was my first thought but when he said it only had 30,000 copies on the drum, I had not seen one go bad that soon.
What I meant was this machine has no optics, just a fibre optic lens. A dirty laser glass would give faint prints.
I assumed the poster meant the machine had done 300,000 total as like you say 30,000 is nothing
