SERVICE MODE > UPDATER > UPDATE FIRMWARE > CONFIRM APPLICABLE FIRMWARE

Service Support Tool: (Start Assist Mode)
To upgrade the System Software other than the use of CDS, the “Start Assist Mode” button is
recommended to perform a full upgrade with the use of the Service Support Tool v4.33Ez or higher.
SERVICE MODE > COPIER > FUNCTION > SYSTEM > DOWNLOAD
USB Flash Drive:
Flashing the System Software by use of a USB Flash Drive is supported.

I have another Canon iR Adv c2220i can I extract the Firmware from that copier and load it to the same model??

No, however you could use the good hdd in your dead 2220L providing the doner machine is also an L model

Can I make image of the working HDD and load it to new HDD??

Yes I have done this a few times I used Acronis.

Yes I have done this a few times I used Acronis.

So I can disconnect HDD from working Canon iR ADV c2220i and make image and reconnect it again in the same working machine with no problem.
