Can plugging USB directly into the machine can insert virus or malware

Hi can inserting infected(virus) USB drive directly into the machine make it corrupt with virus. Does canon machines have windows or Linux based operating system.I have canon ir3245

Anything is possible when it comes to software, but it's highly unlikely.

The base operating system of a copier is normally a customized, cut down and locked down version of Linux or NetBSB.

Ricoh have moved partially over to Android.
So theoretically the same kind of exploits used to root a Android phone or force load a different OS image could apply, but once again it's most unlikely.

Canon has a pretty locked down OS - they say in their tech pubs for updating firmware that there is no risk of introducing viruses to the machine.

Lexmark's 2016 models are running some version of Android - so I assume it can be exploited.

Unique proprietary Linux based operating system. The answer is NO. Machine wont allow you to run an exe file packed in firmware anyway
