Did you check Service Mode > Sensor Check ?

I had difficulty with service manual. I was able to get into service mode but did not see sensor check per se. Saw in manual reports which included error and jam report but it seemed to be needed to be printed out and machine stayed in jam mode. Disconnecteing tray 2 as suggested by a knowledgable canon tech did not eliminate jam mode.

Test mode must be executed by keeping track the flow of menu items appearing on the LCD.
Menu items in test mode are organized into seven blocks . Numerals enclosed in parentheses denote a numeric keypad key to be pressed.

    Press numeric keypad key 0.

    hi,

did you take out the fuser and check for paper fragment caught by the sensor arm? usually what happens customer gets a jam in the fuser, doesnt pull down the arm to release the tension and a little bit rips out and gets stuck in the fuser, most of the jams on these are caused by this, if you have disconnected the 2nd tray and still shows jam its prob down to the fuser.

Re: IR2022 jam message with no jam etc

NOT a fan of this series....

If you open the lower door, you'll see a Vertical Path guide that opens up with the door. Toward the rear of the machine on the guide, you'll see a "Finger" that sticks into the rear of the feed unit, and that in turn lifts a jam detect sensor arm.

I've seen some where all you needed to do was re-mount the vertical guide and it solved the problem. Other times, I've had to completely remove the machine from the cassette and chase down dirty sensors and wire ties that were too tight. (Lifting the base machine off the cassette is DEFINITELY a 2-man job)

With the door open, push the guide in and look toward the rear. You'll see that lever actuating.

....Like I said.... NOT a fan!

Thank you Teckat for that post. It should be very helpful.

Thank you MunsterTech. I had hardly any experience on this model/series and wanted to remove fuser but realized it was more involved than later
machines that I am accustomed to. I decided to wait til I checked service manual so I could check for fuser removal procedure as well as sensor check. My friend and Canon Tech seemed confident that it would likely be tray 2 issue and that disconnecting it would solve problem. I now know how to remove fuser if necessary and to also do sensr check first, thanks to Teckat

Thanks Guitar9199. I do remembernow seeing a small guide at bottom of left side. The rae side of guide had broken end which would go into hole in frame but I did not see anything on that guide that would, in my mind, cause a jam state to remain on machine.

If that small swing guide that has a broken rear support arm is supposed to have another arm that goes into feed and against a senso arm then that would be my problem.

It appears asyhough the gide plate at botto, of machine FB6-1616 may be the cause of paper jam state. When I was there I noyiced it was vroken at rear side but thought it was just a guide plate and never suspected it also interacted with a sensor actuator arm at rear side until mentioned by Guitar9199. I have ordered the guide plate and expect that should take care of problem. Thanks again for your valued assistance, Frank
