IPH 8400 How to enter service mode question

Okay so this machine has a left print head error, and I have tried to hold the navigate and load keys. The $ does show up until the machine comes all the way up and then errors. I have no options other than printer info...i can not scroll left or right before or after machine completely comes up to the error msg. Is there a secret to entering service mode that the manual leaves out or have I just got a pos machine.

If you got the "S" in the upper right corner it is in service mode. Have you ever thought about changing the left printhead? Any particular reason that your not doing that? =^..^=
If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
    1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
    2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
    3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
    4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
    5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.

I have no option to have the carriage move out of the machine, and was hoping that the replace l/r printhead in service mode would be the silver bullet to my problem
