Re: Canon C5051 dumped cyan toner, replaced toner & cleaning blade, now no cyan

Well, I removed the cyan developer and the gear on the back looked ok to me.

I also checked back into the opening and the coupling looked ok as well. At least it was comparable to the other 3. I put it back together and ran another PG10 to see if maybe there was a loose connection or something that was resolved and got the following result.

The cyan ghosting is new, probably from shaking the dev around when I removed/replaced it as I wasn't getting any cyan before. I'm still getting the little black chunks of plastic on the sheets though. If you look carefully about 3/4s of the way down on the left hand side, you can just make them out. Those aren't toner smears, they're actually small, sharp pieces of black plastic, partially embedded in the paper.

@techandtrader - It's been a while since I swapped the drums around, a year or more. I'm sure it didn't help the current situation any, but we're so cheap here, it's crazy.

Looks like the cyan developer is worn out and so is the yellow drum.

Ok, I'll replace both of those. Has anyone had any luck with the Precision "Compatible" drum units or should I try to stick with OEM?

We have not seen any issues with the stop pads. Would like to see that whole PDf.
Its a 4 page PDF I posted that talks about everything. I've replaced all of the above a few times. Probably done 3000 service calls on 5000 series. Surely you have had the broken patch shutter...this stop pad stops it from breaking..

In order not to throw good money after bad, I've only replaced the cyan developer for now. That went rather smoothly. However, it doesn't appear to have solved the issue quite yet as I'm still not getting any appreciable cyan output. I did run the INISET-C after I replaced it. I've attached a new PG10 so you can see what I'm getting now.

Looks like cyan and yellow drums are both worn out. Swap the cyan with the magenta drum and see if symptoms change. Also, clean the laser lenses just to rule that out (you've probably already done that).

Ok, I swapped the cyan and magenta drums and it looks like I'm getting some cyan now, but it fades toward the top of the page. Oddly enough though, the magenta coverage seems fine... I've added a copy of a mostly blue mouse pad (grabbed what was handy) so we are making some progress here.

Interesting. Looks like cyan drum was okay. I suspect a buildup of something on the cyan laser lense. Something the cleaning wand can't get off. Shine a flashlight on the cyan lense at various angles to see if there is something on the glass.

Just for kicks (and since everyone's still in the office and I can't tear into the copier just now) I ran a PG4 for cyan only and got the attached result with the fading at the top of the page. Out of curiosity, do the test prints get any input from the lenses or do they just come straight from the PCB?
