Canon IR 1435 Grey Background after toner install

Customer installed a new toner and after the fact all the prints come off looking dirty. Grey background covering the full page. Reseated Drum. Cleaned off a small area on the charge roller. Drum looks clean. Tried to change some of the bias settings with no change to the background. Happens on both prints and copies. Tried to run some black copies to see if depleting some of the toner in developer unit would fix issue with no change. Almost looks like overtoning but didn't really see any way to adjust or calibrate developer.

I didn't sell them the toner but I did look at the box in the trash and it appeared OEM. That was one of my first thoughts too. I googled it after you asked and the box in the pictures matches what I saw. White box with black lettering.

are there any modes to do bias charge changes? Sounds like the Dev unit isn't initialized properly.

did you block the toner supply to the dev unit when you did your 'black copies"? ( sky shots?)
if not you were just feeding the developer more toner as the copies were made

I tried adjusting some of the bias with no luck. I did look to see if one of the special modes had similar descriptions to my problem but no. Again, is there any way to calibrate the developer. I didn't really see it in the manual. No I did not block the toner. With that being said sky shots usually lay down more than what's put in so it usually has some impact on the background. This did nothing.

blocking the toner supply to the dev unit will cause the machine to 'auto - adjust ' the bias when doing sky shots... NOT blocking the supply WILL NOT allow for reset of bias charge. Look in the manual for "Replace and Adjust" section.. then to the developer section... it SHOULD show you the procedure to do the adjustments.

Aftermarket toner boxes look just like OEM boxes. Read it to verify... Logically if it happened shortly after they installed new toner I would suspect the toner. Someone could have poured toner into the old tube. Remember....customers are all liars. Swap the dev with another machine's dev with good toner in it. If it improves, there you go
