    IR5050 reset unit 1

This IR5050 when started up it stays on reservation copies can be made for a long time. If I attempt

to make a copy it says suspended. When I open up the front door it says Reset Unit 1. So I do that and

close the door and it says the same thing. I did find a piece of paper in the connector at the back of

unit 1 and removed it and made sure there weren't others. I tried a good working Unit 1 and it did the

same thing. I went after wiring and checked to make sure that SW 7 had continuity to the DC Controller

connector. I checked in I/O mode and found that the fixing/feeder present bit would not change and shows

the Unit one not present. I checked the connectors on the copier that the unit 1 slides into and I don't see any

bent pins. Is there anything else would make the thing say reset unit 1?

I've seen cases where a small scrap of paper either on the machine side, or the Unit 1 side blocks the connection making the machine think the unit isn't set properly. I'd remove the entire unit, and get a look deep inside the inner connector. I even had to remove one rear connector completely to get all the paper scraps out.

For some reason, end users think that if Unit 1 is difficult to close, the solution is to just slam it harder!!

    ...go figure....

I have seen that many times also. I have it far apart enough to almost get my head inside. I air cleaned

the connectors. It never gets away from saying Reservation copies can be made. When I open the front door it

says Reset unit 1 and close the cover. When I close the cover the screen still says reset unit 1 and close covers.

I tested the front door switch and it seem to be okay. I would have to order a D.C. Controller just wanted to hear other possibilities. Thanks for the advice.

If you think of anything else let me know.

Okay...found another thread on here that is exactly what I am getting.

I did search for FU18 on here after discovering

that fuse was blown on the DC Controller and found that.

    Thanks for that thread Teckat!

You may want to check the connector frames for cracks. There's also an additional connector at the rear of the Unit 1 frame that might have paper in it as well. Also I saw on the Canon support forum where the microswitch for the handle on Unit 1 was defective, and if I remember correctly, Unit 1 has a control/driver board too! Otherwise...yeah, DCON may be your culprit.

I had same issue a couple times. The green locking handle for unit 1 has a micro switch under it. That will cause that problem if broke or loose.

I swapped DC Controllers with an exchange from Nationwide Repair. It solved the problem. Before I did that I did quite a bit

of wiring work making sure something wasn't shorted to another wire or to ground. I clipped off and replaced the wire ties

on the harness on the fixing feeder assembly as a precaution. I am guessing the fuse blew because of paper jammed into

    the connectors.

All I have left to chase is an annoying clicking noise that is coming from the fixing area. The gears are not broken or cracked.
Happens mostly at low speed rotation. I can't get it to do it rotating the motor by hand.

It might be the solenoid that turn the WEB roller

Can I ask if its a creaking noise/sound while in standby?
The fuser roller bushings will be the culprit, need to put some of that magic fuser grease under and around them.
