    Re: Reviving Canon IR c5180

i ordered the cleaning assembly. also i noticed that the smudges show up on the transfer belt before to curls underneath. could it be from a wavy transferbelt?

oh and one other thing. paper trays 1 and 2 will feed paper when the unit is turned on and jam.

    replace transfer belt
when u remove belt > clean that large black rubber roller--a slick roller will cause drift of sheet & and registration issues

if u have never removed sheet> it can be a little frustration added to the day----the four Primary charging rollers in there are usually ok --unless copy count is high ( the black plastic hold-down tabs on either end have a tendency to crack (causes end of roller to pitch up sheet (causes a drag line on top of sheet )

    ================================================== ====
    YEAR 2009
The ITB may come in contact with the belt cover causing a blurred or smeared image on the ITB.
The reasons for this symptom are due to the following factors:
    • The ITB coming into contact with the belt cover due to static and/or toner build up.---------(-happens a lot on old units )
    • The drive roller downstream contact point possibly allowing the belt to become loose.

To resolve smudge phenomenon the following changes have been implemented -
    • Increased distance between the ITB and the belt cover from 4mm to 11mm.
    • Addition of a potential control plate to control the potential of the ITB.
    • Addition of a belt cover grounding plate to eliminate static build-up on the belt cover.
    • Addition of a secondary transfer guide sheet to support the ITB ensuring proper tension

If a blurred or smeared image appears on the ITB, do one of the following:
    • Replace the “old” ITB Assembly (FM2-5365-000) with a “new” ITB Assembly (FM2-5365-010).

According to your P Print showing orig. v22.00 Main Firmware--u have old type ITB UNIT

    remove both pick up units

check if damper pad on solenoid is sticky

yep that was it. cleaned them up and put some tape in there for the time being. now i have 3 out of 4 paper trays working. the 4th has broken gears and missing the paper level sensor.

also ran a print set to heavy paper to slow the printing down. and not a smudge insight. ill probably still order a transfer unit. do you know anyone with a good value?

Will FM2-5365-020 work? it seems to keep being cross referenced.

The last 3 digits of a part number for Canon is usually where you see a revision. The original number was FM2-5365-000... The 010 was a first revision, so 020 is a second update. Usually when they change or update a part of the unit, so the 020 will be fine.

Thanks. i wasn't sure if that what that meant. it was listed as fitting a c5185 and as far as i can tell its almost identical to the c5180. just ordered it brand new for a really good price.
