If I remember correctly, you're supposed to replace the white patch at the same time. I got sent out with only half the parts, but was able to clean the patch adequately. I got this message: "03130031-2F32" errors. "Multi sensor error. Turn off printer, wait a while, then turn it on again." There's a calibration that you must do with full gloss media, so have some on-hand.
The sensor that detects the media width is a red LED on the bottom of the carriage. I've had that LED get coated in ink. Cleaning with alcohol and a Q-Tip might help. You can see the reflection of the red LED on the paper when it's detecting the paper width. =^..^=
If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.

tomorrow ill pull it. See if its just dirty - my luck it needs replacing.
This was on an iPF-785 so there may be some differences. Here are my notes from that day:
Clean multi sensor reference plate, and attempt adjustments. If still not functional, replace multi sensor (QM3-5831-000), multi sensor reference plate (QL2-3160). Perform Gap Calibration (service mode: hold Load & Navigate while powering On. "S" appears in the upper right of the screen. Service > Adjust > Gap Calib.), and Optical Axis (load A2 sized full gloss media > Service > Adjust > Print Pattern > Optical Axis).
Definitely check in the 8300 manual first. I hope that helps. =^..^=

Correct Adjustment Procedure when installing a new Multi-Sensor
It has been found that the adjustment value, after replacing the multi-sensor, will not be stored correctly if the Media was not loaded during the adjustment procedure.
The correct adjustment procedure:
1)Execute GAP CALIB without the media loaded
2)Then Load the Media
3)Execute OPTICAL AXIS

When replacing the Multi Sensor the White Reference Block should also be replaced.
After replacing the Multi Sensor, do not forget to run the service mode adjustments listed below.
Service Mode > Adjust > Gap Calib.
Service Mode > Adjust > Sensor Calib.
Service Mode > Adjust > Print Pattern > Optical Axis.

but your second photo is mis-leading, its pointing to the cutter gear box on the end there... the multi-sensor is further inward.
