    Adv4045 print hanging up

Customer has Adv4045 that is not printing out documents. If you send something to the copier to print, it hangs up until you turn copier off/on then it will print out(it is not in the copier queue) Also, they say it doesn't always Scan correctly, sometimes you have to try to send a document twice before it goes to their desktop. The tech went out today and reseated the boards and tried to upgrade firmware, but said "download was stopped because error occurred with file server"? Has anyone seen this before or have any ideas? They say occasionally a print will actually come through successfully but most of the time it doesn't.

How does printer perform completely disconnected from network ?

Driver issues, once had something similar to this where the print job would not print until you disconnected the network cable, then the job would spew out, worked nicely with a cross over cable and my laptop. Finally was able to talk some sense to their offshore IT dept, and they were using the wrong driver. In fact both Canons were doing the same thing, different models. What driver are you using?

There are about 6 people printing to this copier and they have all experienced the problem. Tech did not try to print from a laptop . He did run the Communication Test under Updater and it said OK and also performed the "Check Network function on Main Controller" from the service manual and that checked out good as well. Next step is new ethernet cable and verify/reload driver.

STEP 1...print from your laptop. This will indicate if the machine is ok and its a network issue. If it prints ok, tell them their IT guy needs to learn how to do his job..its not the machine. Suggest deleting and updating drivers(make sure they are correct drivers). My point is that if it prints ok from a straight plugged in laptop, then they have a network issue and its their problem. Disconnect their network cable from the copier and try to ping the copier's address. If you get a reply then there is an IP address conflict...DHCP might be giving the copier or something else similar IPs. I had a customer who used DHCP...someone went in early and their laptop grabbed the copiers IP address(someone turned it off)..turned off their laptop, re-booted the copier and then everything started printing that had not printed. Tell their IT people to assign a different address to the printer..
