    Windows 10 Scanning

I have several customers that have just purchased new computers loaded with Windows 10 and for some reason when trying to connect the Scan function, the copier can't see the computer. We have verified the user name and password of the computers are correct. We have other customers that have computers loaded with the earliest version of Windows 10 and those seem to work fine. I searched other post and went in to turn off password protected sharing but still no change. Anyone else having this issue or know the fix?

First thing to do is go into Network and Sharing Center, click your network adapter, go into Properties/IPv4/ Properties/Advanced/WINS and make sure it's set for "NetBIOS over TCP/IP". Then go into your Firewall settings, and for Inbound Rules, make sure "File and Printer Sharing", and "Network Discovery" are all enabled.

...if that doesn't work, you may need to set the computer up with a static IP address and create the file path using that instead of the name of the computer.

Works great on desktops that never leave the office... Laptops? Those can be troublesome.

Do to update from Windows SMB1 has been disabled. Most machines Can't scan via smb2 or 3 without a firmware upgrade or do to the model can't support smb 2 or 3
scanning. Never had a client yet that refused scanning via ftp to desktop.

    Or use scan to email

    Lightbulb Re: Windows 10 Scanning

    • Microsoft disabled SMB v1 by default in the latest builds of Windows 10.

To be able to use the newer versions of SMB (v2 and v3) you will need to update the MFDs firmware to add support.
(Older models may not receive updates).

If security is of no concern you can currently re-enable SMB v1 in Windows 10 but it's NOT recommended.

(Microsoft will be completely removing this option in the next major update).
