Canon imageProGRAF IPF770 Nozzle POS Check Fail 2F30 error

Hey guys I am stumped here. Been working on a dodgy Canon IPF770 and was getting nozzle check errors non stop ran nozzle position check in service mode and still fails with a 2F30 error complete nozzle failure no firing detected.

After careful evaluation the nozzles are firing and the head management sensor is not picking up the nozzle firing do to a misalignment of the head with the nozzle position sensor. As you can see from the picture the nozzle is off completely and firing on to the top of the head management sensor and not through the sensor.

How do I adjust the head to fire in the correct position is there a manual adjustment or is something else failing on the printer?

I have updated the printer to the latest firmware 1.04 and the print head is brand new.

What do the carriage belt and carriage rail look like? Is the carriage belt skipping? Carriage rail sticky?
If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
    1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
    2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
    3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
    4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
    5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.

    First approach is:

Go to service mode and print a nozzle check

Based on that you continue the troubleshooting.

Most probably you have electrical issue

Re: Canon imageProGRAF IPF770 Nozzle POS Check Fail 2F30 error

So the belt looked fine I was suspect of the carriage bushings though. I did clean the rail it was very dirty and it did temporarily clear one of my other error codes 2F26 but it returned a few days later during troubleshooting.

I have since removed the carriage I have a new entire carriage unit on the way will be here tomorrow.

When I got the printer it had a short in the print head based on the code which is scary considering the problems I am still having. I fear the printer might have succumb to an electrical spike or something in its life.

If the new carriage with belt, encoder strip, relay pcb, flex cables, and bushings does not fix my problem then I would have to believe my main motherboard pcb is bad. Is that a logical assumption?

Nozzle print checks have been fine just the nozzle pos check fails and printer will not make it through initialization just goes into a head cleaning loop burning ink obviously because of the miss alignment with the head sensor.

Anyone have a good used new to me IPF770 motherboard they want to let go of just in case?

I have my new carriage and will be installing it tomorrow but the manual calls for soaking the carriage felt cleaner pads in EU-1 a grease or oil. What can I substitute for EU-1 can't find any info on what exactly it is weather its a oil or light lithium type grease not sure. Do not think lithium grease will soak into the felt so figuring its some type of oil? I also notice it calls for the carriage to be basically dry I guess the bushings are self lubricating?

There is a Canon specified lubricant for pads, but yes the rail runs essentially dry. You'll have ink building up on the rail if you use any other oil. I don't really know of a substitute. =^..^=

Re: Canon imageProGRAF IPF770 Nozzle POS Check Fail 2F30 error

I have replaced the carriage and ran through the calibrations per the service manual and I am still getting the occasional 2F26 error along with my original issue of the nozzle check misalignment. I was able this time to get through the CR MOTOR COG calibration though.

Any ideas, I only have realistically left to replace the encoder strip which I cleaned, carriage motor which I due feel is suspect now and the main PCB motherboard.

Is there a way to do a reset of the firmware just in case something is adjusted incorrectly causing the nozzle check misalignment?

Anyone on here a Canon Service Pro?

is this a common problem with this series?
what other issues can we face?
my boss has just signed up for dealership on this line, and I am afraid he has gotten into another mess! ( FP - Muratec - Xerox being the other messes!)

    TIA!

No it's not. The majority of calls are resolved with printhead and maintenance cartridge. Occasionally aftermarket ink cartridges.

One thing to keep in mind is that the error codes and messages very rarely lead you in the right direction. A Google search gets you better information than anything you get from the manual.

I had a customer ask me once if I could flip the switch so it would use the generic ink cartridges. I told him it was about proper sealing of the ink cartridges, not about flipping some switch. Funny. =^..^=

Re: Canon imageProGRAF IPF770 Nozzle POS Check Fail 2F30 error

So did you fix it after?

2F30 code points to head management sensor is bad - or like your picture suggests it's not firing into the hole.

Order the head managment sensor and replace it? Then in service mode you have to run service mode>adjust>nozzle chk pos.

Maybe give that service mode a shot first to see if it will help you out.
