    Adv C5235A E020

I sold an Adv C5235A with only 85k copies on it in July. Since then about 1 or 2 times per month it throws an E020-0101 code. We have cleaned the patch sensors, ATR sensors, inspected shutter and solenoid, performed MC clear.......and it is still happening. Any ideas?

E020-0101 is Yellow Drum/Developer. Check the solenoid to make sure the shutter isn't hanging up. If you've already cleaned the sensors (All 3?), check in service mode to see if the sensors are in fact reading. Also check your Y Drum and Developer units and make sure they're seated properly. Next step from the manual is to replace patch sensor.... and if that doesn't resolve it, replace Y drum.

    Good luck.

    Error in Y Developing Assembly
The value is higher than the upper limit for the patch.

Go through the following: DISPLAY > P-LED-DA; perform cleaning first If P-LED-DA is 3F or more.
    1. Check installation of the Developing Assembly and the Drum.
    2. Clean the Patch Sensor (UN47,UN48,UN49) Window.
    3. Check if the patch sensor is disconnected.
    4. Replace the Patch Sensor.
    5. Replace the Drum.

Ok, so December 31st, we took a good used yellow drum unit out to test, knowing we would need to wait several weeks to see if the code came back. Yesterday the copier threw E020-0103, same code but referring to the Cyan drum this time. This copier has 61k color copies so the color drums have reached Canons specified yield of 59k copies per color drum but the copies are good. Back in the day, Konica/Minolta would set the copier to error out due to drum life but I've never known Canon to do that. I'm going to take a good used Cyan drum out next week but really need to figure out what is going on. Is this some new setting on the A series (C5235A). Is the chip set to throw a code at so many copies? Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

    This is a last resort.

Are you using genuine or compatible toner? Have you updated the SSW?
