Just an update to this fault:
I had to run up 7 of these iR1022if for the one customer this week.
Out of the 7 the very last machine,at power on,displayed the "DOWNLOAD STANDBY" message on the screen and you could not clear it...effectively the machine was waiting for a software upgrade.
I connected the machine to the tech pc in the workshop and flashed the software using the BATCH ALL 32MB batchfile in SST.
No good

Then I realized that this error only occured AFTER I fitted the 32mb print rom to the machine.
I retraced my steps and lo-and behold found a cable unplugged on the fax board...plugged it in and all was working fine.
Canon's fix was to update the software OR replace the printer rom
