    Canon IR5000 Dropping Toner

Ok, here is a good one I 've been fighting with for a few weeks.
I have a Canon IR5000 that keeps stripping the cleaner gears in the front. I went as far as to replace the entire Process Unit from another machine including the cleaner unit. Does the same exact thing... Any suggestions?

I know that those machines tend to break the toner auger...also...check the fans around the process unit.
If the fans become clogged they will cause the toner to impact and snap the auger.
When you swapped the process units did you use a complete unit?
Or did you swap the cleaning units as well?
Oh...and is the machine using genuine toner or generic?

    Hello,

The following is a tech bulleting from Canon's dealernet. If you are not a trained tech please, please, please get one to do this. This will hopefully stop the problem occuring but you will have to replace the AP Assy to clear the current prob.

Please let us know how you get on.

SUBJECT: Clogging of Cleaning Assembly due to hardened Toner
    < Details >
As a response to a number of reports relating to hardening of toner within the cleaning units of the iR5000 range of MFDs, a new fan assembly is now available. This unit is designed to replace the Primary Fan Duct assembly and its purpose is to increase the airflow to the image process area. This has been achieved by modifying the filter / grill arrangement. There are 3 parts plus an extra screw.

    FB6-5076-000 Fan Guide
    FF6-1420-000 Filter
    FF6-1421-000 Fan Duct
    XB4-7400-609 Screw

    < Installation >
Remove the existing Primary Fan Duct Assembly from the host Image Runner and place on a suitable area, so that it can be stripped down. The new modified Fan Assembly uses some components from the one you have just removed, so don’t throw it away just yet !

Build the modified Primary Fan Duct Assembly with the 4 new parts as listed above and install the fan, spacer, cover spacer guide and cable clip.

IMPORTANT: Ensure that you follow the signs on the outer casing and fan unit for correct fan rotation. Viewed from the front, the fan should rotate anti-clockwise, so that air is drawn in from the front and blown into the main body.

Once complete, fit the modified Primary Fan Duct Assembly into the host iR. This will assist with improving the air flow around the cleaning unit, BUT it is vital that all filters, front and rear, on the iR5000 Series be checked and cleaned on a regular basis, ie every visit.
    < Fixing Temperature >
The hardening of toner within the cleaning unit can be attributed, in part, to excessive temperature within that area of the machine. Due to it’s close proximity to the fixing assembly, limited tests have shown some benefit of reducing the fixing assembly temperature
    via Service Modes. This can be achieved by;
    Adjust – Copier - Options- Body- Fix-Temp Default 0 adjust to 2
And OHP Temp Default 0 adjust to 2

Note: This is NOT a recommendation and information is provided as guidance only.
Technicians should bear in mind that unusually high ambient temperature / humidity could also increase the likelihood of toner build up. The reduction of fixing temperature from factory setting must be treated with caution due to the large number of variables within a customer environment. Prints/copies MUST be checked with respect to improper fusing, image offsetting and possible increased fixing roller wear

That will solve it....5000 is known for this...the auger is probably blocked. Used to run dry Uncle Ben's Rice on big Xerox machines to keep auger tube clean...the new duct will prevent from happening again
