Subject:
Release of special firmware 46.68 to provide support for SMBv2/v3 to overcome security concerns related to
SMBv1(WannaCry)
Detail:
There have recently been worldwide cyber-attacks generally referred to as “ransomware”, the industry names for these
attacks are “Wannacry” and “NotPetya”
For both, the industry recommendation to IT staff is to disable the SMB v1 protocol in their network infrastructure, for
MFD’s, the result of disabling SMB v1 on a network is that “scan to folder” functionality will no longer be possible with
our devices that currently only support SMB v1 (Note that our MFD’s themselves are NOT vulnerable to such attacks)
CINC recommend the following actions for MFD’s that support only SMB v1 such as iRADV C52XX:
• Request the customer to use either WebDav or FTP instead of SMB v1 for scan to folder functionality
• When this is not possible or acceptable, update the device with special firmware 46.68 that adds support for
SMB v2 and v3.
The firmware can be downloaded from the CDS Server:
iRAC 5255 v46.68
Registration ID: 00005940
Password: 31455746
During communications, SMBv3 will be attempted first, then SMBv2 if the destination system cannot support v3
Please note the firmware will remove the following from the User Menu:
SMB server settings
• Use LM announce: ON/OFF
• SMB printer settings:SMB print will not be possible
• Use SMB print: ON/OFF
• Printer name
WINS settings
• Scope ID
The modifications included in this special firmware release will be removed if the target device is updated to a later
version of official firmware
