ive seen a c boot rom and an n boot rom never a p
newer machine have different denomation the old 'c' & 'n' are history to a certain extent - i'm still trying find out why but as most machines are print enableb it's no biggie
i've seen 'h' boot roms
usually "H" boot rom dont have Postscript option
Don't know about the irc3170u but in the IR2270 service manual it indicates the following: N boot rom UFRII/PS/PCL. P Boot Rom just UFRII. H Boot Rom UFRII/PCL.
It may be similar in the irc3170u. Check the service manual for the types of print kits this copier supports. There should be information around there that says what the various boot roms are for.
Edit: from looking on google it looks like I'm right. The irc3170u only has UFRII printing as standard. Guess the U in the name stands for UFRII printing.
