Are you trying to physically connect it to your laptop, or to your wired network? What OS are you running on the laptop?
in a nutshell...
laptop, network settings, tcp/ip settings, dhcp off,
address: 192.168.1.100
subnet: 255.255.255.0
on copier, additional functions, system settings, network settings, dhcp off, IP settings,
address: 192.168.1.110
subnet: 255.255.255.0
turn copier off, then back on, wait a few minutes for the network port in the copier to become active.
connect laptop to copier via crossover cable, or through an ethernet switch. on the laptop open your RUN command, and type cmd, hit enter, type ping_192.168.1.110 (_ denotes a space) hit enter.
your laptop will ping the copier and report back whether it is successful or not.
When it shows communication, open Internet Explorer, and type 192.168.1.110 into the address bar and hit enter. This should bring up the Remote User Interface.
If you can do this, try loading the print driver, that you can download from Canon if you don't have it, (PCL5) and configure it to port 192.168.1.110.
Thank you very much!!
I have now managed to connect my 3220!Again: Thanks for helping me out!
I have one more question. This has nothing to do with the network, but with the driver.
When using print function I can't choose staple when making a booklet. Even though I have the capability on the machine. Does this has to do with the driver?
I tried to print out a set of business cards. I placed the specially made paper in the tray on the right side, but it jams all the time... What am I doing wrong?
Have a nice day!
Check that the paper you are using is within spec for the machine. Also have you told the driver that it has a finisher? You need to do this from within printers, click on properties and check in device settings that the options have been added such as finisher and paper deck etc. Also with some setting finishing and duplex options become unavailable if you are using certain types of paper from the bypass. This is due to the limitation of the duplex unit. Bearing in mind you may be able to feed 220gm paper through the bypass but you can only duplex up to 104gm. Meaning that it will not let you duplex the copy or print if you select thick card in the bypass settings for example.
To follow up on what Iommanxman told you, in the driver properties under Device Settings, toward the bottom there is a button marked, Get Device Status. That button will force the PC to have a conversation with the copier, and upon successful completion of that, all the "toys" will now be available to the driver, such as finishers, paper decks, external trays, paper feed pedestals.
Thats great Mr.Fixit. Allthough I have had issues with this not working if the Canon driver assist thing is not installed. Do we know if it has to have this installed to work?
