IR3200 Spotting toner on top of page

I've not used my 3200 in a few months - last I'd used it was fine but today on firing it up it it's giving me toner splodges on the top prodominantly right hand side of the page. At first I thought it was just black but on looking closer it contains elements of CMYK. Seems to be happening pre-fuser as I'd tried a halt test (also saw quite a lot of toner dumped on the fixing unit just before the fuser).

Tried cleaning cycles and cleaning the TBelt by hand, no change. Can anyone help?

Edit: should note this wasn't happening on every print - after a cleaning it more or less went away for a thousand copies I did but I've just tried another job (300 copies) and it came back and got progressively worse, until it ended up on every page.

If it looks like its waste toner that’s leaking (a brownish colour!) check the waste feed screw assy, this sits under the ITB cleaning blade, check the gear that drives the feed screw hasn’t fallen off. Also check the drums life as SCREWTAPE said but you would be unlucky if all the drums are leaking.

    Hi,

Thanks for all the replies - think the drum lives are ok, 2 are practically new and the other 2 are in 50s and 70s I think.

Does indeed sound like waste toner's being dumped as Marc said, will check that out.

    Thanks again

Yep, there was a big mountain of waste toner had built up on the right side of the cleaning assembly (any ideas why? put a new blade assy in recently) - gave it a good clean, hopefully that will get it under control!

Edit: Hmm, that's not solved it, it seems to be dumping a load of toner more frequently - it's becoming a problem after every 150 sheets or so (in which time it seems to get through a couple of auto-gradiation adjustments). I've attached a pic - seems it's not mixed waste toner but each colour is gathering at this particular point.

    Hi Smiley,

Yes, using OEM toners. As mentioned, the drum lives should be ok and I've similarly had the machine out of use for long periods in previous years without this problem. Would also be strange that all 4 drums were dumping toner at the same spot surely?

Dagoof, Looking at the picture you posted it does look like the mylar guide is warped? It’s the one that sits under the cleaning blade, clean it up & check its not bent or warped as in your picture it looks like it is as this could be rubbing on the ITB causing toner to drop etc.
