Have you for matted the hard drive with the correct format tool, open up for mat tool with editor and see if your hard drive type is in there.
Copiers are only as good as there last service

He claimed that the format procedure went ok,, which means the drive he used had to have been in the table of drives, or the format procedure would not have come back with an O.K. My question for him is,, did you use a NEW hard drive, or a used one? Bad sectors on a hard drive do not show up under HDFormatting, that only writes the partition table and FAT to the hard drive. sounds like a bad drive to me, or bad data from the laptop. Try reloading the system software to the laptop to test that theory.

Changing the laptop perhaps seems like the wrong way to take, but I´ve actually experienced something like this myself, and after 2 weeks, I took my partners laptop, and it worked fine. There must have been something wrong with the parallell port on my laptop, upgrading using a network cable was never a problem. So try using another computer!

There was a way to workaround formattimg the non-canon approved HD with a newer version if SST.
I'll look for the instructions but, basically you open C:\ServTool\iR2200\HDFormat\XXxxv0013\ir2200XXXX.i ft file with notepad. Get the serial # off your HDD label and add it to the .ift file.
The instructions had specifically which # from the HDD and exactly where to add it to the .ift file, which I'll post when I find it. Or,I might even be able to find an old disc with the ver1.14 SST.

Just for clarification, it is the model number, not the serial number on the drive.
