Canon IR2800 fault. Bent copies...

Hi All

I have a canon ir2800. Yesterday it started having problems. After starting up the machine having been switched off overnight, i managed to get 60 good copies, after which the copies have started to come out bent, i.e. the text is wonky, see attached image.

After a little more use the machine keeps switching itself off and i get nothing but blank copies. The copies is about 3 years old and has only done about 60,000 copies.

Any ideas what the problem is and how easy it is to fix?

Thanks

Fais.

Hi
That error code refers to your high voltage failing. Something is arching. Try swoping your drum unit first (easiest). Then your dev unit and finaly strip and clean transfer carona. I have had the drum give me copyquality issues.

Let me now !!!

The fact you are getting the unusual bent copy/print is interesting, I would say it looks like a laser fault, there could be some contamination on the laser mirror, if the machine doesn't have a sorter attached the laser is easy to access (it sits under the lagre copy tray cover.) then its under a small black plastic cover, might be worth checking that for dust or ever spiders etc!

Hi All

I have replaced the drum, since the copier has done just 60k copies from new. I was hoping to reply back to say its fixed but the problem remains. Notable symptoms:
  • Machine is more noisy than normal
  • It takes time for the copier to make 10 copies, when before it was lightning fast.
  • Double sided copies seem to be very problematic and cause the machine to shut down.
It almost feels like it is overheating; the machine is wrking much harder to produce basic copies.

Marc: the machine does not have a sorter but i haven't managed to locate the laser you mentioned.

Any advice welcome.

Thanks

By noisy, do you mean a high pitched noise like a vacuum cleaner? Could be your laser is bad. Try reseating the memory also.

When the copier "shuts down", are any errors generated? Can you describe this shutdown,,, lights, switchs, etc... Do you have to actually turn the copier back on at the main power switch? If paper were traveling thru the fuser wierdly, it could cause the skew you showed in the sample, and if temperature is varying, that could explain the slowdown. Maybe wrinkled fixing film,, or a pressure roller that is twisted on the foam core. Those are things easy enough to take apart and explore.
