Question Printing with Department IDs process

I know how to do it - and it works. I am just curious if anyone knows where the process is documented. I have looked in several user manuals and they just talk about configuring the machine for Dept IDs and printing, but no mention of the printer/job accounting portion.

The way I learned about the print driver portion was from another forum.

Have done a quick check of the PCL/UFR printer guide and did not notice it. Checked Canon's downloads - no luck.

All that job accounting is. To keep track of who is printing and to add a little more security. Just one more lock on the door.

Thanks for the input - but I am looking for WHERE (as in what document) the USER is told to configure the print driver and turn job accounting on.

Nothing important, just getting tired of doing service calls because the users get the Department IDs - but fail to change the print driver because the User Guide does not seem to say anything about it. I know, wa wa, whine.

What models are you referring to, and ever thought of writing your own instructions to give to the customer for how to do this? Send them an email rather than go out to the site.

For the IR3300, the Reference Guide on page 4-22 details "Specifying Whether or Not to Accept Print Jobs of Unknown ID". To allow printing with no Department IDs, "Accept Jobs with Unknown ID" must be turned On.

Manuals for models such as the IR3300 are quite old. I don't think it has stuff on turning off Job Accounting on the computer. That's something which you should include in a separate guide provide to customers.

Network admin book talks about it. This is usually on a cd that comes with the machine or the print kit (depending model).

Google search "Job Accounting" Canon PS/PCL Driver Guide and you should be able to find a pdf with instructions.

Thanks for all the assistance. I found the reference I was looking for in the UFR User Software Guide - not the driver guides.

Thank you for pointing me in the right direction. Mission accomplished.
