This error is related to scanner. Try to clear in service mode (* 2 and 8 *) clear, ERR then OK

Is the scanner lock is still in? I think its on the left side, a yellow or orange plastic. Turn it 90º and pull it out.

When you turn on the copier the scanner should move out of home position and the light come on. If the scanner moves you have a bad sensor. If the scanner does not move something is binding it up or the motor is bad. Take off the glass and try move it gently by hand, look to see what is binding it up.
Oil the rails, check the set screw is tight on the shaft on the right side.

While you have the glass off check the sensor. Look inside toward the left rear and see if it is damaged or knocked loose.

D L P gave you the right process. Check the lock first. Then I would Power down, remove the glass, and move the scanner to about half-way (in order to make sure it moves enough for you to notice). While the glass is off is a good time to see if the HP sensor is knocked loose. Put glass back on, power on and observe if the scanner moves and stops before "slamming".

No movement means either the motor or reader board. Could be either, but the way I would go is Remove the covers so you can touch the motor with your hand, and power cycle the unit. What you are looking for is if the motor is trying to activate (yes guys, I know about part check - but I get the feeling he is more basic than that). No attempt - I would replace the motor first. Attempt but no movement, I would replace the board first.

If it moves, change out the HP sensor. After changing the sensor - if it still happens, the reader board has an issue.

As always, your milage may vary

Guess it is up to you, but rather than jumping all over the place checking the least probable cause - why not try the troubleshooting process of the 4 most probable causes (lock, sensor, motor, board) DLP and I suggested? Scanner movement, or failure to move, is key in a 202 error.
