Canon W8400 firmware help, with printhead error e02802!

A customer of mine has printhead error E02802 on their W8400.

They have replaced the printhead with a new one but still shows printhead error.

I have tried to do some resets in service mode but no luck.

I read there is a firmware update which could resolve this issue but the program 'Gero firmware update utility 3.0' simply wont find the printer installed on my system neither via USB or ethernet! I can print to it (or at least see it trying).

I also understand that Canon ship the printheads out with the firmware but the customer seem to have binned the package the new printhead came in and didnt realise the firmware was there too.

Can anyone forward me the firmware and update program which will enable me to update the firmware?

All replies are very much appreciated!

    Thanks

    1) Power off the Printer.
    2) Press and hold the INFORMATION + STOP + OK buttons simultaneously, then press the POWER button. Release the buttons when the message "FIRMWARE UPDATE" appears in the display.

If Print Head is replaced without updating firmware, the machine will go into error. In order to bypass this error, CITS (800-423-2366), will ship the L-Printer Service tool CD upon request. This tool will override the error code and allow you to update firmware with the new Print Head.

    Thanks teckat

So i need the L-printer service tool if the machine has already had the new printhead?

What if I put the old printhead in that the fault originated with, could I use the firmware update tool downloaded from canon usa to update?

or do i have to perform what you said above:

    '1) Power off the Printer.
    2) Press and hold the INFORMATION + STOP + OK buttons simultaneously, then press the POWER button. Release the buttons when the message "FIRMWARE UPDATE" appears in the display.'

then use the downloaded firmware tool from canon usa?

Still no joy in updating the firmware on the W8400!!

Tried the FUT downloaded from Canon and put the machine into downoad mode. . .

Still the upgrade tool will not see the machine to upgrade!

The only thing I havent tried is the parallel interface to see if it can upgrade that way.

If you have anymore ideas, please let me know!

    Much appreciated!

thanks teckat but as I said before, the Garo update tool simply does not detect the printer is even there. . . evn tho you can send print jobs to it when it is 'online'.

Even tried 'holding down the [Information] + [Stop] + [OK] keys simultaneously, turn the power ON to get into download mode.

Still does not detect it is there.

Re: Canon W8400 firmware help, with printhead error e02802!

What did you end up finding out? I am in a similar situation right now. I am trying to help a friend with their machine but they are far away and i do not want to make multiple trips. I have worked on many machines in the last 13 years but never thins model before. And we are a small printer shop so no access to canon support.
