Hi there,
We have a Canon Color imageRUNNER C4080i. Nothing will print. All of our print jobs show up in the log with the code NG (#853). I cannot find the meaning of this code.
Please help, I am going to tear my hair out!
Hi there,
We have a Canon Color imageRUNNER C4080i. Nothing will print. All of our print jobs show up in the log with the code NG (#853). I cannot find the meaning of this code.
Please help, I am going to tear my hair out!
#853
Cause
-Using the wrong printer driver.
-The machine does not have the proper printer kit installed (e.g.
UFR, PCL, PS kit(s)).
-The print job did not print because due to lack of
resources on the printer (e.g. memory, HD space, etc).
-Print spooler on the machine is full.
-The number of secure print jobs have exceeded the
maximum limit that can be reserved at this time.
Remedy
-Make sure that the printer driver that you’re using is the correct
one for the operating system on the computer that you are
printing from and specific to the printer model that you’re printing
to.
-Check and verify that the correct and the required printer kit is
Installed (e.g. UFR, PCL, PS kit(s)).
-Reduce the number of pages to print.
-Erase unnecessary jobs that are stuck or in reserve.
-Turn off spooler on the printer, ADDITIONAL FUNCTION >
SYSTEM SETTINGS > NETWORK SETTINGS > USER
SPOOLER, set this value to OFF.
-Print out or erase secured print jobs that are stored or waiting to
be printed on the machine.
-Try printing again when other jobs have completed printing.
Oh, thank you, thank you for replying! I am pretty sure it is one of these, hopefully the first one.
I will try to verify and change the drivers if necessary. Thank you so much for the information, mrfixit51. I will update when I have the results.
Two and a half months late and I still have not fixed this problem. I do believe the culprit is the driver, but I do not know how the wrong driver was set up in the first place nor how to replace it.
Our Unix computers point to a CUPS print server which manages the printers and print queues somehow. CUPS shows our Canon iRC4080i as Canon iR105-M2 PS Ver 2.1. When I try to modify the printer, Canon is not even listed in the make/model/driver section, yet there are other Canon printers that work fine.
Anyone happen to know how to configure this? Or perhaps I should post in a Unix forum.
Thanks,
veracity
This is definitely a Unix issue, some of the guys here are conversant in other O.S.'s, but a UNIX group might be able to point you in the right direction quicker than we can...

Are you sure you have PS language on your Cir4080? The fact that you get an error (#853) instead of pages of garbage makes me think you don't even have PS. Even the wrong driver should print out something. If you have the imagepass H1 print a config sheet and if you have PS, it will list the PS version and options. If you have the Canon (internal) controller, press additional functions-> report settings-> printer-> and you should see PCL and PS where you can print config page and font list.
Have you tried the BrightQ for Canon? I've been told Unix people love it, but it also needs PS.
BrightQ Pro for Canon: Unix and Linux Printer Drivers for the imageRUNNER
Try installing the UFRII driver Canon U.S.A : Disclaimer.
The reason why you see Canon 105 PSvx.x, it cause that's what printer wizard offers under canon. Select have disk and select the right print driver file after you Down load this file, its a EXE. file.
Good luck.
You shouldn't have problem with unix, I have clients in the field that run this Operating system with no problem.

Hi
It's more likely that you don't have neither Canon printer board nore imagepass H1 on your iRC4080 To resolve the issue you need to add imagepass H1 Fiery on the back of your machine or change the boot rom by PCL kit boot rom

Error #853 when printing to the imageRUNNER.
The issue in that situation was no printing options ( PS / PCL / UFRII ) were detected in the "Counter Check" option on the Control Panel. Select the Counter Check button>Device Configuration><Options> if print options were registered, they would show up under the Option heading.
The imageRUNNER did indicate that the printing LMS options were installed on the unit. In Service Mode, level 2, Copier > Option ><LCNS-TR>ST-PS / ST-PCL / ST-LXUFRII were all set to"1", indicating a valid LMS license was installed for the print options. Workaround :
Clearing the Main Controller in Service Mode resolved the #853 error.
*Once the Main Controller was cleared, the Counter Check option now indicated PS / PCL & UFRII and was able to print with no #853 errors.
Service Mode> Copier > Function > Clear ><MN-CON>
Note: In this instance, MN-CON was cleared twice to resolve error.
