Multifunctional Embedded Application Platform
Its a Java based run-time environment that allows people to develop custom apps to run on and interact with the machine. So far the only MEAP app i've seen is an integration app for LDAP.
No, I will not send you Manuals, Software or your own little repair Genie to fix all your problems for you.
E-Copy is the only MEAP application that we are currently using with the iR series. It is basically a scanning suite to convert paper to digital imaging that can archived and be edited.
dear madu
what is the MEAP?
-Multifunctional Embedded Application Platform
-Allows custom applications to be installed and used on a MEAP device
-Through a web browser or application, developers can control various aspects of the device:
-Mailboxes
-User interfaces
-Print, scan, copy, fax
-Up to 18 custom MEAP apps can run simultaneously
-Up to 9 apps can display along with native functions (other installed MEAP apps cannot be seen)
-MEAP interface can be designated as default
-Applications can be developed by canon
-Third party software companies
-Dealers
-Customer’s IT department
-MEAP does not work on previous Canon MFPs; legacy devices cannot be retrofitted for MEAP architecture
- MEAP COMPONENT
¾Platform
¾Embedded in iR device at factory
¾Based on Java 2 Micro Edition (J2ME)
¾J2ME used because of low resource requirement. Also used in mobile phones and other small devices such as PDA’s
Application
¾Java software program that runs on MEAP platform
¾Installed from a PC web browser or via MEAP Enterprise Service Manager utility. Cannot be installed via device control panel
¾Independent from system software
¾Can be installed/ uninstalled/ stopped/ started
¾License file required to prevent illegal copying

The only few MEAP apps i have come across so far are
E-Copy (Like MrFixIT said)
Gives you better options to do with your scans (Like Outlook, Hummingbird, or scan to a users personal desktop)
Uniflow
Users can log onto the device and one thing it can do is Follow Me Printing, So if one device is own, the user can log onto another device and print from it
USB Scan & Print
You can plug in your USB stick into the device and can print your files (.doc, .jpg, .PDF (But you need another liecence for the PDF's)
There is more, but here's a few
There have been a number of custom applications written to work with MEAP, however it's a bit of a pain to do so.
The developer must pay some serious $$$ to Canon, (for the SDK kit), and Canon must approve the application before releasing the licensing.
I was involved in one about a year and a half ago, where an application of EDM (Electronic Document Management) had been written to work with some 70 series machines.
