    Unhappy IR 3100N Belt Cleaning

I can't get the cleaning blade to clean the belt to save my life! Anyone ever seen this problem? Brand new blade and it won't even make contact with the belt to clean it. Ghost images for 5-7 copies!

I would suspect a support pressure release issue.

In 2006 the ITB Cleaning Assembly was modified.> ITB Cleaning Assembly fails to fully clean the ITB
to prevent this issue it was modified.
The tension spring has been reinforced
    • The transfer blade pressure has been increased
    • The pressure release support has been reinforced
    • The ITB Cleaning Assembly frame has been reinforced
Due to the tension spring being reinforced and the complex adjustment work needed, the tension spring has been
    discontinued
When replacing the ITB Cleaning Assembly with the newly modified assembly, please perform the following:
    1. Execute Service Mode Level 1>Copier>Function>MISC-P>ITB-CLSW>OK
    2. Turn off power to the equipment
    3. Replace the ITB Cleaning Assembly with a newly modified assembly
    4. Turn on power to equipment
    5. Set Service Mode Level 2>Copier>Option>Body>ITB-CLN>2
When ITB-CLN is set from 0 to 2, the equipment will execute ITB cleaning more frequently
    TRANSFER CLEANING ASSEMBLY=FM2-0082-110
    SUPPORT, PRESSURE RELEASE=FC5-0467-020
    SPRING, TENSION=Discontinued
Transfer Cleaning Assembly contains both the Pressure Release Support (FC5-0467-020) and the Tension
Spring. There is no need to order these parts separately.

The small cost savings with replacing just the blade was not offset by the number of times a revisit was required to play with it again,, 2 blade failures made a believer out of the normally frugal mrfixit... went with full assemblies from that point forward and have not had any recalls for that issue.

I also only have one left,, but this one has been a fairly docile machine...

There was a spacer kit to add on to the earlier versions of the cleaner assembly. Also tightening sequence of the ITB assembly is very important. The arms for the tension roller in the ITB assembly break often also. New cleaner assemblies work ok.
