    Canon ir C5185 - W1 finsiher problems

Have a W1 finisher that is misaligning the paper when stapling. Have check the static eliminators and have taken it apart and everything looks ok. What am I missing. It pushes the left jogger on the left side over the paper the thus making the paper to get out of alignment. Can not figure this out.

Also I need a parts and service manual for the W1 finisher. And the updated firmware for the W1 would be nice.

    Thanks

there have been many tech pubs on this issue/ too many to go over >with suggestions on fixes/ have tried most of them with no luck, but
I have used the exit sensor arm position adjustment procedure, with great success , it is a trial & error adjustment/ u have to remove the top & front panel to access
hard to explain adjustment/some techs drill out screw hole & that right hole so they can slide sensor position
i loosen it a bit an put small paper wedge behind metal piece to pitch out/ it is all about timing the jogger

I also have experience this problem on ir5050,C1,5185. The solution to this problem is the firmware update with v7.01 or higher for the finisher. There are some pressure adjustments you can do for the swing guide . When the update is done you can then make the adjustments off of the dip switches on the finisher controller pcb. You must have a pcb downloader device in order to do flash the finisher controller pcb. If you work for a authorized dealer and have access to canon, there is a tech pcb TP08 230d. Also you will get a error code when you do this procedure but you can disregard it.

The sensor trick changes the timing of closing the swing guide, by not having it opens its "Mouth" as wide, allowing the guide to shut sooner to drive the copies back into the tray so they can be lined up to staple better. I fought this on a 4580 with that finisher. The down side to playing with the opening is that the paper can crash into the rollers of the upper part of the guide and turn over in the guide area, catching future sheets. It is trial and error to get the best results. This still occurred some after the firmware update,,,

    Good Luck!

I agree that it occured after the update. The trick is finding the right amount of pressure. I've tried all other remedies, but none had resolved the issue. The firmware did the job for me. Your right it is trial and error. But once you get it you never be back for skewing.

I had the same problem on a c5180 W1 finisher. I tried a newer version finisher controller pcb from Hytec w/ no fix. I ended up replacing the assm with the joggers and motors to take care of it. I didn't have the downloader cable so I didn't even try that route.

FWIW - I pulled the good assm out of parts finisher and swapped the bad assm back in it - They both worked! Not sure what actually fixed it.

Remember your gonna catch an error code along with the process. Disregard it.
