    **Check to make sure the Saddle Finisher connector is in the correct connector on the Main Controller. It should be plugged into J703, but it will plug into J723 as well. OR it could be loose >>>If this doesn't fix it, replace the main controller

    i would tell u to do a clear MMI CLR > but u may have issues after that
    do u know how to locate Main Controller ??
    Tec - no, unfortunately I don't. I have done so far turn off>unplug finisher> Restart and the issue (of course) went away. I'm pretty sure that the connectors are correct seeing as how it has worked before. Plug back in the finisher and it comes back.

    @Screwtape - I got my codes for you. There were 50 of them and I assume that Canon keeps their codes from #1 being most recent to #50 being farthest past. I cannot tell the dates though, but the first one reads 0004, then 0733, and THEN there is 2 in a row of 0540 and 0542 (lift motors 1 and 2). Shouldn't it be throwing those codes first? Then the codes go 0227, 5 in a row of 0004, then another 0540, 0542, and then a whole bunch of non finisher related ones like 0677 0733 0020 0007.

    Thanks for all your help, guys!

    For the E540,542.
    Check the flag arm That are located by each tray.
    They sometimes break or get stuck.
    That's something to look at.

    what was your answer to - do the trays move out of position when powered up ??

    On the cassette pedestal look for the Square Molex Connector at the copier end. this supply's power & signals for Finisher> Open the connector housing and check for broken wires or if the connector is unplugged or not fully engaged.

    Not today....I've been on conference calls all day. I think we've tracked it down to the flag issues you posted OR the lift motors. When we turn the machine on, the finisher trays do not move, so we figure it's one of those 2 issues.

    EDIT - The flags seem to be fine though. Pretty loose and free flowing if that makes any sense.

    When you go into service mode, note, these are the first tabs you should see Copier>feeder>sorter>
    Do you see sorter??

    Yep. It looks like this when I select it:

    Sorter <1/1> <ready>
    Pnch-HLE0 <-(0) {-4 ~2}

    Here's something else to look at. Under the first tray there's sort of a black cover, If you press it, you should here a clicking sound. There is a mirco switch that could come out of place, check out the photo, the micro switch is circled. This will also cause a E540-xxxx and power issues for the sorter. You can also have a blown fuse on the finisher controller pcb.
