    IR C5180 help! Functions Limited?

    Allright here's the deal:

    Canon IR C5180
    H1 Fiery
    W2 Saddle Stitch Finisher
    4 paper trays total

Even after a re-initialization we're receiving a (Ready to copy (Functions limited) message. It seems to not want to recognize the finisher, even though it passes paper. It recognizes the finisher, I open the finisher door, it tells me to close it, it has staples in it and it seems to be connected securely. The print driver shows the correct configuration when I update device info and shows the w2 finisher. However, I just sent a print job with stapling selected and it did not staple.

I know very little about Canon and I can't seem to pin down this issue in the service manual. What am I missing?

Any other accessories attached like a punch unit.
Did you look at the saddle part of the finisher.
In service mode you can check the error history.
There should be a error code associated.
error codes like, E540, and E500. The E540 indicates a problem with tray movement, while the E500 may indicate a communication problem between the Finisher and the main engine.
Finding out what the error code is it could help you narrow down your problem.
The reason why its in functions limited mode,
is to bypass any problems with any accessories,
allowing the machine to continue to work.

Did you look at the saddle part of the finisher.

@Screwtape - Nope, no punch unit. Just the items listed above.

Have not checked Error History yet.

@Teckat - For the most part.....kinda. We're a small family run business. Our techs are not trained on Canon either. We took these machines in from trade.

Okay, here's something else for you guys:

We have 2 of these units.
The unit that has the error message has worked before just fine, except for some copy quality issues.
The quality issues became bad and we didn't have a new set of drums, so we swapped it with the other one. Other 5180 runs great.
This 5180 with the message has just been chillin' in our warehouse.
Today, the 5180 we were using went away, so we just got a new set of drums and put the old one in.
Now we have the error message.

I'm not sure if that really helps having that info. I'm pretty much used to Samsungs and Panasonics.

Oh, and I just checked the status monitor - it specifically says "Finisher cannot be used."

    chillin' in warehouse/ suggestion
when u power off machine, do u use the correct shut down procedure /
also when u power it up do the Finisher trays move up- down to position ??

**Check to make sure the Saddle Finisher connector is in the correct connector on the Main Controller. It should be plugged into J703, but it will plug into J723 as well. OR it could be loose >>>If this doesn't fix it, replace the main controller
    .

i would tell u to do a clear MMI CLR > but u may have issues after that
do u know how to locate Main Controller ??
